FAQs
What is Part 61 Pilot?
Part 61 Pilot is a blog that promotes the understanding and self-awareness of mental health and human psychology in flight training, general aviation, and professional piloting. Many aviation resources, textbooks, and YouTube videos will explain how to fly an airplane without connecting how we as pilots can recognize, understand, and take the appropriate actions to understand our own emotions, thoughts, and mental processes that directly affect our flying abilities.
Who is behind Part 61 Pilot?
Like many before me, I trained at a FAA part 61 flight school. This training path has its pros and cons depending on the what the student is looking for. Over 80 percent of student pilots quit the private pilot license training for a reason. From money drying up, switching CFIs, different airplanes, weather delays, inconsistent training, plateauing, taking forever to solo, wondering if the career before flying was better, yeah, I have been through all of these and still continued on. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it. I am here to share how I got through these mental hurdles and psychological pressures student pilots can face during their training.
Why is it called Part 61 Pilot?
Part 61 refers to the specific section within the Code of Federal Regulations Title 14 that pertains to aviation. Within this section, it outlines the requirements pilots must meet depending on the level of certification that pilot is seeking. There are two main types of flight schools in the United States of America, there is part 141 and part 61. Both flight schools lead to the same pilot certifications, but how the ground school, flying, and syllabus is vastly different from both school systems.
When can I expect to see a new blog posting?
Like you, I many other life obligations, however, you can expect to see one blog posted each week on the Blogs page. The content will vary but week to week, but the main focus will be on the psychology of flying and how we can use this knowledge of how we think, feel, and process to our advantage to make us not only better pilots, but safer pilots.
